Adjustable dose marking for oil terminal lines

Enraf MeQ-Pak Turbine Driven Injectors, installed at a major oil terminal on the UK South Coast, are providing flow proportional marker dosing systems for ship import lines of kerosene and gas oil.

Enraf Fluid Technology has supplied and commissioned a dual pipeline marker system at a major oil terminal on the South Coast of England. Using its MeQ-Pak Turbine Driven Injector, Enraf has provided a highly efficient and cost effective solution to overcoming its client's restriction of only being able to import pre-marked product for its gas oil and kerosene storage tanks. With the MeQ-Pak, the end user is now free of this major restriction as the system enables marking to be performed in-line at the UK terminal.

The client's requirement was for their two ship import lines for kerosene and gas oil to be additivated with marker dye during receipt at 100ppm and 1000ppm respectively.

The solution was to install two 6 inch MeQ-Pak turbine injection units complete with marker storage tanks.

The Enraf MeQ-Pak is a simple mechanical device comprising an injection controller, pump system and pipeline interface which has been designed for mounting into the product pipeline.

The self-powered turbine operates purely by the power generated by the product flow through the pipeline, rotating the turbine and producing the energy to drive the injection system.

As a result, the unit does not require either a power supply or pump booster system.

The two MeQ-Paks were installed directly into each pipeline and fed with the respective marker from the fully bonded storage tanks.

With the MeQ-Paks, the end-user has the scope to inject additives up to 2500ppm at product flow rates of up to 300m3/hr.

Plus, with the inclusion of a high accuracy PD meter on the additive injection lines, our customer has the additional security of local or remote reconciliation of all marker injections.

As the power is generated by the product flow there is no need for additional power supplies, thereby making the system ideal for applications where cabling would make injection prohibitively expensive.

Coupled with this is its simple installation and low maintenance requirement, factors that make it a highly cost-efficient system to operate.

The Enraf MeQ-Pak is available in five sizes from 2 inches to 10 inches and is suitable for flow rates up to 960m3/hr.

It can provide injection ratios of 0.25ppm to 2500ppm and can accommodate up to four different additives simultaneously.

Injection rates are fully client configurable via vernier displacement controls on each pump head, allowing for increases or decreases of injection rates within each unit's specified range.
